Come to Taiwan … Meet Canadians

So you may think that when coming to Taiwan one would meet taiwanese. Well, you’d be only partly correct. You’ll find a heck of a lot of Canadians here as well. Consider this, in my program 80-90% of the foreign English teachers are Canadian. More than that, a majority of the Canadians are from the East coast of Canada: Halifax, Toronto, etc. Strange yes?

In other news, I had my first 2 regular classes last night. I’ve got a group of first-graders and another group of middle-schoolers. Classes follow a fixed format, but i’ve yet to completely understand the system. This made for a lack of energy amongst the youngsters. For my older class they are reviewing for their big test. So there are a lot less games and a lot more repetition and review. My next regular class is on Thurs. with another on Friday. All of my classes are between 4-9 p.m. A fairly late work day.

In other news today. The Netherlands announces their plan to use chicken manure to power their homes. I guess this give whole new meaning to the expression “chicken-shit” (harr harr). You’d be amazed how much one craves for bad jokes these days.
